In The Garden with the Divine

One aspect I cherish about hosting events in city gardens is that they remind me of a larger reality yet to unfold. Despite their beauty, these locations are merely a glimpse of the world God has promised to His people.

In the book of Revelation, John receives a vision of the New Jerusalem. He observes the river of the water of life flowing from the throne of God and the Lamb, with the tree of life on each side, yielding fruit for every season and leaves for the healing of the nations (Revelation 22:1-2).

A few verses earlier, it is mentioned that God Himself will reside with His people, wiping away every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death, mourning, crying, or pain, as the former things will have passed away (Revelation 21:4).

As I anticipate our gathering at Gore Park in Hamilton on July 4th, I am reminded that many who walk through that park carry heavy burdens. Some face loneliness, addiction, depression, anxiety, or other mental health challenges. As followers of Jesus Christ, we come with faith and expectation that God continues to heal, restore, and transform lives. Jesus Christ remains the same yesterday, today, and forever.

However, we do not offer false promises. While God can heal in this life, He does not always do so in the manner or timing we wish. Our ultimate hope lies not in temporary relief, but in the completed work of Jesus Christ and the promise of His coming kingdom.

The gospel provides hope that extends beyond our current suffering. For those who have placed their faith in Jesus Christ, a day will come when every effect of sin and the Fall will be undone. We will receive glorified bodies. Every wound will be healed. Every tear will be wiped away. Every burden of sickness, pain, sorrow, and mental anguish will disappear forever.

Because Jesus died and rose again, He has secured this future for His people. As He declares in Revelation, "Behold, I am making all things new" (Revelation 21:5).

This is the message we will proclaim at Gore Park: repentance toward God, faith in Jesus Christ, and the hope of the gospel. Whether someone experiences healing today or awaits the complete redemption in the age to come, the invitation remains the same: come to Christ. In Him, there is forgiveness, salvation, and the assured promise that one day all things will be made new.
